The observation by the Maharashtra director of fire services that most housing societies in the state do not maintain fire-fighting systems installed by the developers should come as a wake-up call for each flat owner. The director has observed that the fire-fighting system comprising fire alarms, sprinklers, water hose lines and fire extinguishers are completely defunct in most of the buildings. Maharashtra Housing Federation officials have said they would create awareness in the housing societies about the issue, every flat owner must ask his/her society office-bearers to carry out the building’s fire audit regularly for the safety of all residents.
