Boeing, Injaz Qatar hold STEM workshops

Injaz Qatar, in partnership with Boeing and STEM for Kids introduced 200 students of the Edison Group schools to the secrets of ‘Science All Around Us’, through a series of workshops focused on exploring the science in everyday life. STEM for Kids, an education organisation that provides science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM)-based courses, designed and delivered the hands-on programme to groups of 10- to 14-year old students (grades 6 to 8). This initiative is in line with the emphasis that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has placed on the importance of STEM learning. Students solved challenges that investigated common scientific phenomena and mechanisms including, pinhole camera, Archimedes’ Screw and Newton’s Wheel. Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser al-Thani, chairperson of Injaz Qatar and Injaz Al Arab; Roula Droubi, regional director of Government, Industrial and Community Engagement at Boeing Mena; Aida al-Shehry, owner of the Edison Group schools; Emad al-Khaja, CEO of Injaz Qatar; principals and teachers from various Edison schools attended an event held at Edison International Academy in Lusail to celebrate the implementation of the STEM workshops at the Edison schools. Kuljit Ghata-Aura, president, Boeing Middle East, Turkey and Africa, said: “Boeing is committed to inspiring and motivating the next generation of engineers, scientists and innovators, and programmes like ‘Science All Around Us’ play an important role in engaging students in STEM education and careers. Boeing has a long-standing partnership with Injaz to develop programmes for young people in Qatar and the region.” The STEM workshops help students gain foundational literacy, scientific literacy, computational thinking; critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills.
