PORTAGE, MI -- Expect to see plenty of orange cones and bulldozers in and around Portage soon as city leaders prepare to approve more than $30 million in capital improvement projects.
The proposed 2022-23 capital improvements budget, which covers city infrastructure such as parks and streets, totals about $30,490,000, according to the proposed budget materials available on the city’s website.
The majority of that money is earmarked for projects related to the streets and sidewalks of Portage. Another large chunk of the expenses are planned for improvements to city parks and trails.

The following major streets in Portage are marked for reconstruction. The surface asphalt removal and overlay rehabilitation planned will extend the useful life of the major streets, the city said.
The capital improvements budget also outlines proposed projects in subsequent years. For a complete list of projects, visit Portage’s website. The City Council is expected to approve the city’s fiscal year 2022-23 budget at the upcoming meeting Tuesday, May 24.
