Residents in the Ravensthorpe area of Dewsbury are being asked to keep their doors and windows closed after a major fire broke out at the Ravensthorpe Industrial Estate on Low Mill Lane

Firefighters from across West Yorkshire are battling a major blaze at an industrial estate this morning. The fire, at Ravensthorpe Industrial Estate on Low Mill Lane, in Dewsbury, broke out on Friday night.

The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) website says it is a "large incident" and "approximately 100 firefighters and specialist officers are currently on scene tackling the blaze which is involving heavy machinery and stacks of scrap metal".

Fifteen pumps and three aerial ladder platforms are at the scene with various other specialist resources including hose laying equipment and a high volume pump. "Fire appliances, specialist supporting resources and officers from around the county are currently in attendance," said WYFRS.

Reports indicate that the fire is taking place at the Arthur Brook Ltd recycling centre and that crews were sent to the scene shortly before 11.30pm on Friday. The fire was first reported at 11.14pm. Crews are reportedly fighting to save surrounding buildings from the fire.

All properties and businesses in the Ravensthorpe area are being encouraged to keep their doors and windows closed while fire crews battle the blaze.

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said around 100 firefighters are at the scene.

An update on its website at 3.25am said: "Incident has now been increased to 15 pumps and 3 aerials along with various other specialist resources including hose laying equipment and a high volume pump.

"Approximately 100 fire fighters and specialist officers are currently on scene tackling the blaze which is involving heavy machinery and stacks of scrap metal."
