LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Apparatus from the Sanatoga, Ringing Hill, Gilbertsville, and New Hanover fire companies rolled Saturday (Nov. 13, 2021) down South Sanatoga Road to Sanatoga Lake in Lower Pottsgrove to have their pumps professionally tested and rated, Lower Pottsgrove Fire Marshal Lew Babel said.
A line of trucks pulled along the lake’s east shore, and also occupied a parking lot at the nearby band shell in Sanatoga Park, for annual pressure tests conducted by the Shop One division of John Miller and Son Inc. in Pennsburg.
Water pushed through hoses under high pressure by a fire truck’s pumps usually results in more effective firefighting, Babel explained. Water is thrown farther and with more force by well-maintained and working pumps, which helps extinguish fires quickly and lowers property owners’ insurance costs, he said.
Successful testing for all four companies was conducted at Sanatoga Lake because of its proximity, an abundant water supply, and the ability to use a nozzle that could accommodate hoses of varying widths. It took about 20 minutes to run each test, during which Shop One personnel varied hose pressures, carefully monitored gauges, and recorded all details for the companies’ review and documentation purposes.
