Victaulic claims grooved pipe joining makes for quicker, simpler and safer maintenance

Victaulic, a manufacturer of mechanical pipe-joining systems, is exhibiting its line of IACS-approved products that they say reduce the need for vessel maintenance and help make maintenance quicker, simpler and safer at Marine Maintenance World Expo 2013. On show at stand no. 1020 will be a selection of rigid and flexible couplings, fittings and accessories that reduce the time and space needed for piping system installation, and allow easier access for repair and maintenance. Also on display will be Vic-Press, the latest IACS-approved press-to-connect system for joining small–diameter stainless steel pipes. Couplings offer a flame-free installation, improving safety in dry docks and aboard ships especially when work needs to be done in confined spaces. The Victaulic system is cold formed and provides a union at every joint, making maintenance and retrofits a straightforward task, the manufacturer said. Victaulic couplings also reduce piping noise and vibration. Visitors to the show on September 12 can discover more about the many benefits of grooved pipe-joining technology at a free-to-attend presentation in the technology demonstration area. Bart Vandedrinck - EMEA-I manager, Victaulic, Belgium – will explain how the structure of a grooved pipe coupling reduces sound transmission and how the coupling’s elastomeric gasket and ductile iron housing absorb vibration. He will also describe how switching from welding to grooved pipe joining minimizes downtime and eliminates the safety hazards associated with welding. Additionally, the demonstration will highlight the reliability of the method: a simple visual inspection of the metal-to-metal bolt-pad contact confirms the grooved-end coupling has been properly installed and verifies that the joint is sound. victaulic.com/en
